Fabled of antiquity
Poised; her gaze incurious
A Grecian maid, remote and cool
She wouldn’t care to look at us
Indifferent, she doesn’t know
If we watch—she stands alone
Lit by summer, cobweb screened
In her majesty of stone

Mosaic
makes
a quilted spread
Images
to take away
Frame
in frame
in frame to see
Textures
shifting
in your gaze
Knock
on wood
Or step
away
Would
you open
doors today?

Softly, softly green and grey,
I glanced within a tree-made frame
to see a gently-toning cow
who'd no idea her drink somehow
inspired a click as I walked by...
and though we shared a milky sky
she never saw me, never knew
she centred in my river view
Softly, softly green and grey,
I glanced within a tree-made frame
to see a gently-toning cow
who'd no idea her drink somehow

Visit to the market
Where I bought a cotton shirt
Bees abuzz in lavender
Industrious in work
Under trees and up the steps
Down to the waterside
The fearsome sun of January
Casting shadows deep and wide
Apple green and faded red
Bright and dark in dappled view
Creamy purple, shimmered stone
Dominated by the blue

Upon that sunlit shining day
I peered into the hawthorn grove
to see the ladies in the shade
the branches tangled as they wove
a frame for curiosity
for one was looking back at me
all framed by curiosity
the branches tangled as they wove
about the ladies in the shade
who peered from in the hawthorn grove
upon that sunlit shining day
I peered into the hawthorn grove

The sky was
weird. All navy-tinted
Jet-plane
passing; finger-printed
What’s that
blob of turquoise there?
Who knows?
The UFOs won’t care
If we spot their
skyday hoons…
They know we’ll
say they’re just- balloons
Ah, see that
dazzling portal’d light?
They’ll scoot
on through
and
out
of
sight

An eyebrowed window
wide-awake
yet screened with mesh
to blind its gaze
not so, not so,
my mind decreed
so I embellished
as I pleased
with buddleia
for summer's eye
to please an
absent butterfly
a happy dog
on river mission
makes a cheering
cool addition...
Framed you see
to kiss the blind
and hide the humdrum
that's behind.
And who's the say
my vision's fake?
when I'm just dreaming
while awake?

And stuck upon a wall
Peculiar fancies are my wont
I've no excuse at all
A calf with hoof upraised and stare
To ask me how it was I'd dare
To stick its image on a wall
I've no excuse. No. None at all
Watered silk Grimaldi rose
A pretty thing. My whim to pose
A crop of blooms upon the wall
I've no excuse to make at all
Bonica is birthday pink
Its generosity extreme
Reminding me of cake and cream
And yet I've stuck it on a wall
I've no excuse...not one at all
Oh, Auntie Win, that's not your name
But still, you know, it suits you fine
Your proper moniker... oh dear!
Impossible to scan in line
So all these pictures on a wall
Graffiti'd there
No rationale
Eclectics from my walk today
(I've no excuse to make at all)

We call it the elbow. As you see
a spot to park a dog or three
safe between the canna lilies
and the wall; away from silly
people who might stop to pat...
Jack Russells aren't real good at that!
Dappled sun and glowing shade
make it safe for Jack and Ace
posing as they wait for me
in this small security
hosting colours tone on tone...
They see me now. It's time for home.
I paint the picture in my mind and share it with the dog-inclined...

Today I saw space oddities
Unexpected things in places
Drew my eye; peculiar spaces
Yellow dinosaur in town!
Rearing high to flourish-blare
Hangs in silence, frozen there
Tree to split and frame in brown
Sunny-silver-love-it-so
Caught in-camera as I go
Cars (of course) commodities
Shiny-new-forget-the-shade
Then shattered, battered and betrayed
Cars (of course) commodities
Yellow dinosaur in town!
Today I saw space oddities
Tree to split and frame in brown

Necklaces of careless nature
Chance-be-met upon my walk
Visions for my mental treasure
Seen today and not tomorrow
Jewelled chances simply borrowed
On a noonday jaunt
Sun and shadow lie contrasted
Solid and ephemeral
Sculptures ever-new recasted
Ugly beauty of the fungi
Prickles gemmed and glorified
Too lovely to be general
Crimson drops of native cherry
Draw the eye of any stranger
Sweet as any garden berry
Strung like rubies for delight
Glinting in the noonday light
Necklaces of careless nature

Along the
river lies a mossy wall
Flat on top and sloping away
Dogs trotting atop can easily fall
"Poor little fellow," observers say
But Russell the terrier loves that drop
He flings himself to the length of his
leash
Abseils up and he's back at the top...
It's time to finish our walk in peace
Strong paws get a grip on the dry brown moss
Haunches flex with muscular ease
Scared? He's a terrier! Doesn't give a toss!
Russell believes in the power of his leash!

Soldier in memorial
Against the summer blue
Madonna-coloured memories
Green trees are framing you
Hot January's sunshine
Has dyed the gentian sky
But are you looking down on us and thinking
Bloody why?

I found a feather on the sunburned grass
Propped by the wind
With fluttered tips
Perhaps from the breast of a passing duck?
And I saw it there as it bowed and dipped
I chose it for a snap by luck
But I never touched it
Left it there
A piece of art in Summer's care
Atkinson's Park near the Mersey River
I found a feather on the sunburned grass
Propped by the wind
With fluttered tips
Perhaps from the breast of a passing duck?
And I saw it there as it bowed and dipped
I chose it for a snap by luck
But I never touched it

Down by the river the stones shone warm
The very image of Summer's form
Clay and cream
Sandstone and grey
But a dull black piece it drew my gaze.
I was just about to pick it up
When by the water in muted waves
I saw the centrepiece shore-made
Splashed to bring the colours true
I set it on a shingle frame
But errant drops ...they still remain
I could use art to take them away
But they were there on a summer day
Down by the river the stones shone warm
The very image of Summer's form
Clay and cream
Sandstone and grey
But a dull black piece it drew my gaze.
I was just about to pick it up
