First time I’ve walked this way
In daylit emptiness
Mostly mall is bustling
Displays competing for my eye
People wandering along or sitting in
the café shade
First time I’ve walked this way in
daylit emptiness
You could be pardoned if you thought
it five o’clock or six
But no – my phone informs me that
the time’s
twenty to nine
Yet shops are shut
There’s no one here
An empty mall in daylit emptiness
except for me
